STREET FOOD & NIGHT MARKETS · PATTAYA

STREET
FOOD.

The other half of Pattaya dining. Past the sit-down restaurants is a city of night markets and street stalls — grilled skewers, papaya salad, salt-crusted fish. Here's where to go, what to order, and what it costs.

01WHERE TO GO

THE NIGHT MARKETS.

Pattaya's street food lives in its markets. A handful are worth the trip; one is essential.

Thepprasit Night Market — the essential one

The headline destination, on Thepprasit Road in South Pattaya. One of the city's largest markets: clothes and accessories near the entrance, then a big covered food court toward the back where the eating happens. It runs on weekend evenings — roughly Friday to Sunday, about 5pm to 11pm (days can shift, so check before you go). About 10–15 minutes from Beach Road by Bolt or baht bus. Come hungry.

Made in Thailand Market — the local everyday

In Central Pattaya (Pattaya Klang), a younger, more local market mixing clothes stalls with a solid food section — handy on the nights Thepprasit is closed. Busier and best in the evening.

Naklua & the north — the untouristed option

The Naklua side runs quieter, more-local markets and fresh-food stalls — a good move if you want street food without the tour-bus crowd. Pair it with Naklua's seafood restaurants for a full evening.

Market days and hours move around in Pattaya — treat the times above as a guide and confirm locally before you set out.

02WHAT TO ORDER

THE ORDER LIST.

The point of a night market is to graze — small portions from several stalls. Start here.

The essentials

Moo ping (grilled pork skewers, ~10–20 baht each) with a bag of sticky rice is the perfect first bite. Som tam (green papaya salad) — say "mai phet" if you want it less fiery. Pla pao (whole fish in a salt crust, ~120–300 baht by size) and grilled prawns or squid are the seafood move.

Fill up

Bowls of boat noodles, khao man gai (poached chicken and rice), roast duck or crispy pork over rice, and chicken satay with peanut sauce. Most mains land around 50–100 baht.

Finish sweet

Mango sticky rice when mangoes are in season, coconut ice cream served in the shell, and Thai pancakes (roti) cooked to order.

03HOW TO DO IT

THE PLAYBOOK.

  • Bring cash. Stalls are cash-only. About 300–400 baht per person buys a feast across several stalls.
  • Graze, don't commit. Order one small thing at a time and keep moving — that's how you actually taste the market.
  • Follow the queues. Busy stalls with high turnover are both the tastiest and the safest — food is cooked to order in front of you.
  • Getting there. A Bolt or Grab car runs roughly 120–180 baht from Beach Road; a blue baht-bus toward Thepprasit from Second Road is 10–20 baht.
